Pyracantha (Firethorn) Bonsai Tree Type (Outdoors) PYRACANTHA (FIRETHORN) -

Shrub with heavily spiked branches bearing small, oval LEAVES, white FLOWERS in spring/sumMEr and clusters of red/orange/yellow berries in the autumn.

STYLE : Suits informal upright, slanting, cascade, semi-cascade, root-over-rock, clasped-to-rock and CLUMP.

WARNING: Spines are lethal - tips can be trimmed. Branches are stiff and easily broken. Wire and bend when young and thereafter with great care.




Care Info

PYRACANTHA (FIRETHORN) -

REPOT : Every 2 years in spring. SOIL : 40:60 GRIT:organic.

PRUNE : Spring prune to SHAPE. New SHOOTS emanate from side of spines so prune back to the spine which points in the direction required for the new shoot.

PINCH : Pinch out larger LEAVES during growing season.

WATER : Keep wet but not saturated. Dryness will result in poor flowering/FRUITing and also dieback.

FEED : BALANCED FEED weekly until flowering and then low nitrogen through to autumn.
